Anxiety and Depression Therapy
"Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open." - Rumi

Anxiety and depression often walk hand-in-hand.
There was a time where I would cycle between phases of anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, and then phases of a heavy grey emptiness. Feeling trapped in this cycle, it seemed that I was unable to access an expansive perspective of life.
Though we may identify more strongly with one or the other, neuroscience reveals the deep connection between anxiety and depression. Chronic anxiety places our nervous system in a state of hyperarousal, constantly alert and scanning for threats. In this state, it can feel impossible to slow down, relax, or trust that things will work out. Many of us become accustomed to operating at this heightened level of stress.
But our bodies aren’t designed to sustain hyperarousal indefinitely.
Without adequate time to rest and return to a calm, regulated state (known as the parasympathetic or rest-and-digest response), we inevitably collapse into hypoarousal—a state of exhaustion, numbness, withdrawal, and depression. This isn't a personal failure; it's our nervous system's attempt to protect and preserve energy after prolonged stress.
Over time, we may find ourselves caught in this exhausting cycle:
Swinging from anxiety, worry, and overwhelm into states of numbness and depression
Feeling persistently "on edge" or chronically depleted
Losing motivation, feeling detached, and experiencing emotional numbness
